Medical weight loss or bariatric medicine is the medical specialty that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of overweight and obese individuals and related conditions.
At the Learn2Lose Center for Weight Management, Dr. Croland designs a medical plan for each patient. Your program may include a combination of these weight loss treatment techniques: meal replacement products, appetite suppressant medications, and metabolic injections.
Many people who are considering medical weight loss with Learn2Lose have questions about what their treatment will be and what they can expect when they come to the clinic. They also have questions about the costs associated with medical weight loss.
While we can't tell you exactly what program Dr. Croland will prescribe for you, we can give you an idea about what you can expect to occur during your initial visits with our medical weight loss team. If, after looking through this information, you have additional questions or wish to schedule your first visit please call us and we will help in any way that we can.
During your first visit to the Learn2Lose clinic, you will meet with one of our bariatric assistants. We will measure your vital signs (pulse, blood pressure, and temperature) and take a blood sample. That sample will be sent to a laboratory and analyzed for basic health markers like blood cholesterol, sugar levels, thyroid, kidney and liver function.
A computerized weight and body composition analysis will be performed and your BMI is calculated. These measurements are taken so that we can better understand your weight-related health risks and help you track your progress through your custom weight loss program.
We may also perform an electrocardiogram (EKG/ECG), if such a test is indicated by your health history. An EKG provides extra information about your heart which helps us to carefully choose the safest treatment options for you. During this visit we will take your photo. Most of our patients enjoy comparing that photo with ones taken later in their weight loss program. It can be a very rewarding comparison.
At the end of your visit we will schedule your first appointment with Dr. Croland. Your appointment can often be scheduled for the next day if your lab results are available and if our schedule allows.
*Please be sure to avoid wearing any body lotion on the day of your first visit or this will make the EKG very difficult to perform. Please do not eat or drink anything (other than water) after 10 p.m. on the evening prior to your lab work.
This is the visit following your initial nursing intake. Please plan to be at the clinic for about 2 hours for this important visit. We will review your personal health, family health, and dietary histories and your medical exam will be performed. We will discuss the results of your health and diet histories, your physical exam, your lab test and other exams which may have been performed. Based on this information, we will recommend your weight management treatment options. In addition, you will participate in a one hour class and will learn about the weight loss, transition and maintenance phases of the program, as well as other interesting information. You will receive a program booklet that contains a summary of the information presented.
This visit includes a 60 minute educational presentation. As this requires an environment with minimal distraction, we can not allow children to be present for these visits. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience.
